With HDXT you get a SATA connector instead of having to use a pitiful 2.5 inch hard drive for your PS3. You can then connect which SATA hard drive you want to your PS3 instead of being limited to the small hard drive that comes with it.
HDXT only fits with PS3 machines where you push the hard drive along the long side (of the hard drive). The new 40GB PAL machines are available to push the hard drive along the short side (of the hard drive).
