DriveKey är det enklaste sättet att chipmodifiera sin Nintendo WII konsoll. Ingen lödning krävs, ej heller känsliga "clips" man trycker fast över befintliga kretsar.
Istället monteras drivekey snabbt och enkelt på flatkabeln mellan moderkortet och dvdläsaren. Chippet avlyssnar trafiken på flatkabeln och går in och ändrar informationen vid behov så att konsollen inte kan se skillnad på originalspel och backuper.
Det finns dock ett par nackdelar jämfört med de chip man monterar med lödning eller wiiclip. För att chippet skall hinna med att ändra informationen i kabeln så ställs hastigheten på dvdläsaren ner, vilket kan ge fördröjningar i laddtider eller hackande videosekvenser i vissa spel som läser mycket data från skivan. Chippet har ej heller stöd för "Streaming Audio" när man spelar gamecubespel.
Drivekey passar alla modeller av WII, inklusive de absolut senaste som helt saknar den "D2A/D2B/D2C/D2E...osv" komponent som "vanliga" chip ansluts till.
OBS! Vi gör en visuell inspektion av samtliga chip före leverans, detta innebör att du kommer få chippet i en bruten ESD-förpackning. Anledningen är att chip med en viss komponent har problem, dessa chip vill vi inte leverera. (Diod markerad med beteckningen W3 = problem, är dioden markerad X4 är chippet OK)
DriveKey sits on the bus between the Wii motherboard and the DVD drive. It transparently monitors all data transmitted. When a backup disc is inserted DriveKey emulates an original game disc by transmitting and patching necessary data. DriveKey has full control and can read the entire DVD media.

While every effort has been taken to ensure that DriveKey is compatible with a broad range of media and drives there is no guarantee that any given media or game will work on a specific drive. There are a number of factors beyond the scope of DriveKey functionality that affects media compability, such as the laser diode and other internal circuitry in the DVD drive.
